bronze sheet metal

I have a necklace that means a lot to me. It isn't made out of the best material in the world, and it's starting to "bronze." I mean that the bronze under the metal is starting to show. You can't really see it, but I know that it's only going to get worse. I feel that maybe I should replace (which I could do easily) but the necklace is close to me. What should I do?

Hi, maybe you can bring it to a jewelry store and have them put a thin layer of silver on it?... just an idea...
