I have finished checking off most everything on my to-do lists, and I still feel a bit anxious as I prepare my house to receive the visitors for the Open Studios Art Tour here in Santa Cruz this weekend. I took an ill-timed but well-worth-it vacation a couple of weeks ago which threw off my schedule, but I think I am all caught up. I have been using these last couple of days to go back into the studio to polish up some new pieces (literally!) and getting the house and garden cleaned up.
The final preparations will include getting the refreshments chilled, clean the glasses, and finish putting the signs together that will be the "breadcrumbs" around the neighborhood to lead people here. I just found out yesterday that my neighbor across the street will be having a wedding on Sat and Sunday, so I need to figure out a way to keep some parking spots open to make sure people have a way to park and stop in. My other neighbor suggested I put up an "Art Parking Only" sign in front of their yards and mine, so there is one more thing to add to the to-do list!
But it is all so worthwhile.... it was such a thrill last year to have people come by to see my studio and to get an idea of how and where I work. I am so thankful to all my "helpers" both last year and this year, without which I would be sunk. Having people coming through the garden is always a bit alarming (but fun!) and it gives me a good excuse to get my husband outside to clean things up a bit... ;)
